Unfuck Yourself by Gary John Bishop: is a great self-help book for anyone who needs a pep talk and reminder about how great and capable they are. Bishop is a straight shooter who provides no-nonsense advice about how to unfuck yourself and get out of your own way.
Pairs With: a Toblerone. It feels like it fits. Working on yourself can feel like climbing mountains and a Toblerone is made up of little mountains.
Overview
If you’ve read The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck by Mark Manson or You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero, you may be familiar with the concepts and advice Bishop provides.
However, Bishop does provide his own perspective and frames things in a new way that gets you thinking differently. This book does a great job of being brutally honest while also being uplifting and supportive.
The Audiobook
As some of you may know, one of my favorite things is if an author reads their own audiobook. This book is even better than that!
Bishop reads the audiobook AND has a badass Scottish accent!! There is something about getting a pep talk from a Scottish man that just hits harder. When someone has that kind of voice, you listen.
Also, the audiobook is only 3 hours long which makes it perfect for a long car ride or to pop on whenever you’re working around the house. In case you’re curious how many pages that is, the physical book is a reasonable 218 pages.
Conclusion
This book is an excellent read for anyone new to the self-help world or for anyone who needs a reminder of how capable they are. The physical book is great to have on your shelf when you need a quick pick-me-up or some additional motivation. But the audiobook is not to be missed either. Read by the author himself, in all his Scottish accent glory! Although, I felt this book was written more for men who were new to self-help – I still really enjoyed it as a seasoned self-help female.
